Frequently Asked Questions

learn about Local Bounti

Do I need to wash your greens?

At Local Bounti, we harvest and package our baby leafy greens with the utmost care, ensuring they’re ready to eat right out of the package—no washing required! However, for our living lettuce and herb products, we recommend a quick rinse before use. Since the roots are still attached to extend freshness, rinsing ensures they are clean and ready to enjoy.

Why don’t you triple wash your greens?

We don't triple wash our leafy greens because our enclosed greenhouse system allows us to maintain a high level of control over cleanliness and quality. Our controlled environment minimizes exposure to outside elements. Additionally, triple washing the greens can reduce their shelf life, and we want to provide the freshest, longest-lasting product possible. By skipping the triple wash, we help preserve both freshness and crispness for you.

How long do Your Greens last?

All Local Bounti greens stay fresher longer compared to conventionally grown greens. Our greens are grown indoors with sunlight, water, and extra care. We avoid triple washing and chlorine baths—so you get the freshest, longest-lasting produce possible.

Are there any recipes or serving suggestions for your lettuce products?

Absolutely! We have plenty of recipe inspiration for you on our website in the recipe section. Our Leafy Greens and Living Lettuces are perfect for salads, sandwiches, and wraps. Living Watercress can add a fresh touch to juices, soups, and stir-fries. And our Fresh Basil, with its fragrant and bright flavor, is ideal for pesto, tomato sauce, and as a beautiful garnish.

Why does Local Bounti use plastic packaging?

At Local Bounti, we are actively working toward more sustainable packaging solutions. While we'd love to use all eco-friendly materials, we're still in the process of finding an option that meets all our needs—one that protects our products during transport, preserves their freshness, and can be easily processed in facilities across the country. In the meantime, we're committed to reducing plastic waste by using 50-70% post-consumer recycled materials. We’ll continue to make improvements as we advance toward more sustainable solutions.

Is Local Bounti packaging recyclable?

Most of our packaging is recyclable. In addition, we use approximately 50-70% recycled plastic to create it, helping to reduce our environmental impact. As a proud partner of the How2Recycle program, we recommend following the specific recycling instructions provided on our packaging to ensure its properly processed. This partnership helps us make recycling easier and more accessible for everyone.

Do you provide nutrition facts for your products?

Living and leafy? We keep it real, no nutrition facts for them. But if you're curious about the goodness, check out USDA's leaf lettuce category Nutrition Information for Raw Vegetables | FDA. For our Salad Kits, the nutrition facts panels are on the package. If you would like to look at them, please send us a DM or email.

Are your greens organic?

We proudly offer several varieties of Living Lettuces and Living Cress, all certified organic and grown in our California facilities. While some of our products are conventionally grown, we use highly refined, pure nutrients in those facilities, allowing us to reduce chemical inputs by 100x overall. Our advanced greenhouse technology also gives us greater control over runoff compared to traditional farming methods. This innovative approach reduces our environmental impact while ensuring we consistently deliver high-quality, fresh produce to meet our consumers' needs.

Are your greens Non-GMO?

At Local Bounti, all our greens are non-GMO and grown with a commitment to quality and sustainability. Using innovative practices like our greenhouse technology, we cultivate fresh, healthy, and flavorful produce while minimizing environmental impact—no genetically modified seeds needed. While some environments rely on genetically modified crops to withstand extreme conditions, our greenhouses provide ideal water and nutrients for each plant to thrive. This dedication means you always receive the finest produce, straight from our fields to your table.
